The CIFAS study aims to help the building and functioning of the future farm advisory systems that Member States have to establish by 1st January 2007. It focuses on the development of suitable advisory tools, and particularly "farm level indicators" related to cross-compliance requirements and standards in the field of the environment (based on Council Regulation (EC) No 1782/2003).

The CIFAS study is managed by the European Environment Agency (EEA) under the guidance of a steering group composed of DG Agriculture (DG AGRI), DG Environment (DG ENV) and the Joint Research Centre (DG JRC) of the European Commission. It runs from March 2005 to December 2006.

The CIFAS website provides information on reports and stakeholder meetings of the project, the legal context of cross-compliance and the future farm advisory system, as well as links to relevant institutions and related projects. For general enquiries, please contact the EEA Information Centre; an online public enquiry form is available at: http://www.eea.europa.eu/help/infocentre/enquiries
